Miss Elizabeth Coxon

Worcester Wheels / Worcester Volunteer Centre Trustees are extremely grateful to the estate of Miss Elizabeth Coxon for the recent bequest and to Sue Sharp for administering the process. To mark our gratitude and respect we are proud to share Liz’s brief obituary with all of our customers, volunteers and stakeholders.

Miss Elizabeth Coxon 1946 – 2016

Known to her friends as Liz, she always maintained that she had been very lucky in her life despite leaving us at only 69 years of age. From being born at the right time, spending a happy childhood on a farm with her sister and parents, whom she loved dearly, to a rewarding career and wonderful friendships made along the way. On leaving school she trained to be a teacher and after many years in primary teaching she specialised in Special Needs for the rest of her career. Being one of the last people to be able to retire at 50 she did have 18 good years of retirement before falling ill with pancreatic cancer. She wants her bequest to make a difference to other people’s lives.

Act Local Volunteering Event, 9 June 2016

Act Local event in Volunteers' Week, 9 June 2016 at The HiveIn this year’s extended Volunteer’s Week which runs from 1-12 June 2016, Worcestershire County Council has organised an event at The Hive on 9 June 2016.

The purpose of the ‘Act Local’ event is to promote and raise the profile of volunteering across Worcestershire.

We have cancelled our Volunteering Fair at the Guildhall as the events are so close to each other, on the same theme and were both due to take place in Worcester City. As this one is free for exhibitors to attend, we encourage you to book your free place and to nominate volunteers for the different award categories

Hear from a number of guest speakers about what volunteering means to them and discuss how we can encourage and promote volunteering across the county. There will also be a marketplace available for organisations to promote volunteering opportunities, network with other providers and hopefully recruit more volunteers.

The evening will conclude with an awards ceremony to recognise the contributions that volunteers have given and the difference they have made to lives in Worcestershire.

To attend or have a stand, please email your name and contact details to: actlocal@worcestershire.gov.uk by 5pm on Friday 27 May.
